Is the Sicilian meant for chess experts only?

White attacks black's king at the same time as black is attacking white's king. Whoever checkmates first in the Sicilian Defense, Dragon Variation.

The Sicilian is not only for experts - some lines lead to super sharp but fun positions. For example, take a look at the Sicilian Dragon:

It's worth saying it twice..

Play the Paulsen rather is my advice..

I love playing against dragon players..

Those who have wins against masters are welcome at Slayers!

It seems that blundering pieces the professional way because you don't understand what you are doing gives you a lot of pleasure. That's good for you!

Gentlemen, let the kids have fun and make mistakes.

They have their best years in front of them unlike you and I.

It makes no difference to me if a 900 blitz player wants to think they are playing the Sicilian.  As i said, Im here for pfrens comments.

Fair enough, be a peanut gallery.

My point is play, have fun, make mistakes and learn. You don’t need to be an expert to play the Sicilian as a relevant retort to the OP.

I learned the Sicilian at 800 and was very blessed to learn from a club champion. I routinely draw with 1800 players OTB which is good enough for me.

Its 2022.

Peanut Gallery:

A peanut gallery was, in the days of vaudeville, a nickname for the cheapest and ostensibly rowdiest seats in the theater, the occupants of which were often known to heckle the performers. The least expensive snack served at the theater would often be peanuts, which the patrons would sometimes throw at the performers on stage to convey their disapproval.

Quit beating around the bush. You’re a recycled handle name with the same condescending attitude. If you had the balls to play any online games (then  and now) we could all happily gauge you.

This is another thing that makes no never mind to me.  Who i am and why i don't play chess anymore is explained on my profile.

Not all of us can keep up with your 4+ different profiles.

Awesome to know we have a cheerleader on the sidelines.

Is that so?  I've never bothered to check, but in any event...don't blame it on the Sicilian!

There’s not a “I care” emoji that I can see here. So, have a nice hot beverage.

To be fair, most of us don’t care about getting to a 2,000 rating. It’s hard to believe, but there are professional titles/careers outside of chess (as in my line of work), family,  friends and life balance are all priority.

The main point should always be to have fun.  8,000,000,000 people in the world.  Roughly 700,000,000 play chess.  A few thousand GM's.  Just play the game, have fun, and improve as best you can.

Thank-you.

I appreciate the humble advice.

I agree, too many people are intimidated by the mere thought of the Sicilian.  Give it a shot...you will learn it that way.

RoobieRoo

lolz its great to see so many guys still here, IM pfren, LouStule, SmyslovFan etc

Well, here we go again. Another win with the Sicilian by "Not an Expert".  I know, I

know, "Your opponent didn't play it right", "It wasn't the Scicilian that won, your opponent lost", blah, blah, blah.  Bottom line: Yes, even a 1200 like me can learn the Scillian and have sucess with it. BTW, I play it exclusively against 1...e4 OTB and very few of my opponents are familiar with it.
