Fried liver... I tend to go completely nuclear thermonal war on people who think I fall for it. I take that specific opening as an insult.
Is there a chess opening that annoys you ?

Hehe, who said I don't enjoy going all nuclear thermonal war on people?
Neh, the beauty of chess is that each player gets to pick his/her own moves (unless forced). I feel these players are cheating on their own. Many times when someone tries the fried liver and I refute it, it's over for them.
The memorized trick didn't work. Now what should I do?
(don't get me wrong though, when someone falls in a carefully planned trap that I put up, I also enjoy it, but I (try) to make sure I can finish the game if they won't fall for it!

What is this "refutation" of the fried liver you speak of? Is it this?
EDIT: 8...Nb4 is easily defensible by 9. Bb3, I think.

The one opening that I can't stand is the Ruy, especially the mainline Ruy and exchange Ruy.
As white I play the Italian, and as black I play the Berlin defense. Much more interesting games result...

@Twinchicky
Neh, I just make sure it isn't played with h7 as soon as I see that bishop.
Same with the scholarmate attacks with Qh4. I just keep on regular playing, preventing the pawn being taken, preventing the attack on f7 etc etc... and after that come in with the knights. Refuted is probably the wrong word.
In response to the Sicilian ( 1 e4 c5), anyone who plays 2 Qh5 or 2 Qf3. I see it a lot on the FICS server (freechess.org), but not chess.com. People here are better players.
Conversely, I play 1 Nf3 a lot. There are scrubs who quit right away if you don't play 1 e4. Less annoying, since it saves me time. Again, FICS, not this site.

So, do you play the Two Knights' Defense mainline with 5...Na5 6. Bb5+ c6 7. dxc6 bxc6 8. Be2 h6 9. Nh3 instead of Nxd5?

I am sure it is, but if you don't explain why your comment isn't helping anybody. Now at the 2000 level this is probably bad, at my level, the only time you see Bc4 is for the fried liver. Very irritating and this just prevents it. There is no plan B for the players who play this at 1300 live rating.

Because white's dream after move three is to somehow hypnotize his opponent into allowing d4 the next move, in such a way that his development is not hindered in the slightest. Happily for white, h6 allows just this. So d4 is coming without worry about the restraining force of Bc5, or the counterattack on the e4 pawn by Nf6, or even the modest-but-at-least-developing move Be7. Black does nothing to advance his own gameplay, he only plays a move that denies a move (Ng5) that white hopes not to have to play anyway.
But on the plus side, it also weakens your kingside, which is where all white's pieces are going to be aiming in short order. So at least it's going to be exciting for you.
Is there a chess opening that annoys you off when someone plays it against you? You know, once you see it it makes you feel even more motivated to trounce them?
For example, I have a friend who depises the c3 silician because he doesn't like someone trying to side step all the sicilian theory he knows.
Anyone else like that with a certain opening?
