I taught the benko to my students so I have a healthy respect for it. I have learned the accepted version isnt so fun. there is a b6 line that I like only a small edge but annoying for black who sorta expects a standard setup.
I used to play it also, but I really started to dislike the cramped position.
It's even more cramped than the Advanced Variation of the French Defense.

This is how I normally respond as black:
White can fianchetto his bishop on g2 later in the game.
In fact, all the openings mentioned by the OP are aggressive
The Benko Gambit isn't aggresive.
