Hey, everyone! I was wondering what you thought of this opening for White. I play it often, and it usually scores well for me, but are there any moves you wouldn't recommend or I should be concerned about?

bossboy2002

I play this too actually! You are playing it just fine, the only thing i would reccomend is instead of b4, you should 0-0 then go for Re1, and then nbd2, followed by nf7 and then bring your knight to g3. After this you can start expanding on blacks queenside with b4, a4 etc.

bossboy2002

Even though your line is the computer reccomendation, statistics say that white has a much better chance of winning if you play the way i told you.

bossboy2002

thats what got me to 1500 rating in 1 year

I don't like b4 myself however I will say stockfish likes b4 and rates it as the best move.

adumbrate

don't play b4. I played this system as white many hundred games. and won plenty.

acountisasgoodasclos

the system your saying skotheim2 you made some sub par moves for black

adumbrate

well anyhow, it goes like that most of the games, except that knight goes to g3 more than e3. I was more focusing on white than blacks moves

dpnorman

Yes. 5. d3 is better than 5. d4, which is equal.

Now I have always thought you can play any opening you want! but why would you play the italian and not the Ruy Lopez?

adumbrate

because ruy lopez is different, with openings like marshall. however, I play d4 now mostly

acountisasgoodasclos

after e4 c5! also e5! also e6! all good

I guess there is no point in expanding your queenside. The bishop still attacks f2 (the main point of Bc5) while there's some chance your pawns will get overextended later on.

After 3. Bc4 I almost always play 3. ... Nf6 (Two Knights Defence).

If I played 3. Bc4 and my opponent replied with 3. ... Bc5 I'd probably play 4. b4 (Evans Gambit).

Fiveofswords: Do you play Vienna or Bishop's or both? (I know they can transpose.)

I don't mean to be pedantic. I find your opening repertoire interesting.
