How does White blunt Black's Kingside attack in the Petrosian?  EASY!

1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 g6 3.Nc3 Bg7 4.e4 d6 5.Nf3 O-O 6.Be2 e5 7.d5 a5 (or 7...Na6 - take your pick) 8.Bg5.

Now Black is forced to play 8...h6 or White will completely dominate after he moves his Knight from f3 to I believe d2.  Black is not allowed the luxury in this line of storming the pawns like he is in the Mar Del Plata!

Oh, and the four pawns is not busted.  White is fine, and I'd even go as far as saying better, after 6...e5 7.dxe5! (not 7.fxe5) dxe5 8.Be2.

Stronger for Black is 6...c5 7.d5 e6 8.Be2 exd5 9.cxd5 Bg4 with an equal game.   6...Na6 is also interesting and White has had some trouble proving more than equality, but again, it doesn't bust the 4 pawns, and if the London is fine, so is the 4 pawns King's Indian.

What the heck are you talking about?!

7...dxe5 8.Be2? What kind of a joke is this?

ok, i guess most GM playing these systems as white are clueless or at least would suffer against u.

No! Most of the GM's play this lines they know that if Black gets active on the Queenside there is no direct Kingside attack for White. Sometimes chess is getting hard to play only White's. I am sorry sad.png

There's an interesting line some guy at my chess club showed me:

In your line of the Petrosian, which is a mistake for Black and he needs to play 8...h6, White should not castle on move 10.  Nobody plays that any more.  Now-a-days, it is 10.g4 Nd7 11.a3 Nb6 12.h4 a4 13.h5 with advantage.

As far as your 8...Qxd1 line, White should recapture with the King, not the Bishop.  9...Ng4 is nothing as White is better after 10.Kc2.  Against your similar line of 9...exf4 10.Bxf4 Re8 11.Bd3 Na6 12.Kd2 Nc5 13.Bxc7 Nfxe4 and after trading two more times each on e4, White is fine.

Black doesn't need to play 8...h6 , stop parotting what you read or you hear. The line is fine for black and 10.g4 is far from being a refutation.

10...h6! instead of 10...Nd7 is more than needed than 8...h6 wink.png

Let's return to our Joke with the four pawns attack.
