I used to play it when I was a teenager in OTB tournaments because I never had an interest in learning theory and, as we all know, the Sicilian is a theoretical monster. I've picked the Kopec up again just in online blitz and again I find myself being fairly successful with it. Some games are simply flukes but others without obvious blunders seem to be a triumph for the Kopec. Most Sicilian players aren't particularly fond of or good at playing Ruy-like positions and that's the whole point of the opening. 3. Bd3 looks very odd at first - or sometimes 3. c3 and 4. Bd3 so as to prevent black from trying to trade his c6 N for the light square bishop - but the aim is to place the bishop on c2 followed by c3 and d4 where White's position resembles a Ruy Lopez to an extent. Has anyone else played the Kopec much and, if so, have you had any success with it?
