Why do you have to use a similar defense as Black? Sure, you can develop the c8-Bishop to f5 in the Caro-Kann for example 1.e4 c6 2.d4 d5 3.Nc3 dxe4 4.Nxe4 Bf5 but I wouldn't call that a similar position to the London. Also 1.e4 c6 2.d4 d5 3.e5 Bf5 develops this piece. 1.e4 c6 2.Nc3 d5 3.Nf3 Bg4 and 1.e4 c6 2.d4 d5 3.exd5 cxd5 4.c4 Nf6 5.Nc3 Nc6 6.Nf3 Bg4 are also ways to develop this bishop.
You should probably just play 1...e5 and develop your pieces, castle, and get into tactical chess. It will help your development more. The Caro-Kann is safe but the ideas are largely not tactical in the early stages of the game unless White commits to some kind of attack, in which case you need to be good at defensive chess.
I love using the London System as white but when it comes to employing a similar defense as black im having problems... My main concern is against e4... i have heard that the caro kann can give me a similar position but i cant figure out how. Thanks
