Low rated players on Chess.com should study openings!

QUOTE: Actually I have found that playing totally made up openings levels the playing field down to who is the better chess player.

i can think of at least two games where early attacks threw 1700s (i'm "up to" 1530ish now) off their game and let me attack and win from a disadvantage. it REALLY made the 1700 i beat in the "sound" (not if you look at the stats!) fisher defense so mad he sandbagged me with 4-5 different accounts non-stop until i quit playing for a minute. he missed queen takes knight on g5 protecting the bishop I wanted to unpin myself from with knight takes f7 check. after that, i just kept developing a piece and harassing him with my knight and queen until i had him surrounded on my queen side.

it's been driving me nuts lately with all the weird junk lower rated players are playing and tripping me up because i'm positionally stupid. i was raging hard at the 1200 or 1300 that tripped me up so bad it took me something like 8 moves to get my queen and knight developed way too late to save myself.

i'm thinking of quitting chess again actually because it's causing me more stress than enjoyment. where i play forcing me to play 3 black games in a row almost every time i go doesn't help my mindset either. i have so had it with the stonewall straightjacket, especially now with all these new jack anti-stonewall lines like delayed stauntons

I don't study openings lol

I have a limited set repertoire that I play for the enjoyment and playable middle game positions. I prefer imbalance and tactical open games.

From a practical and competitive stand point, I don’t burn the clock out of the opening and it’s been a while where I got hit with a cheap trick or trap.

Theres a division on openings depending on who you talk to and that’s what it boils down to. It’s who you know, not what you know. I was fortunate to have a coach with the same taste and continue the work with a handful of playing partners.

Make friends or join a club that shares similar taste to your game. They’re are the ones that will help you out.

indeed. Pretty weird mindsets being displayed when talking about the opening. Whew 😥
