Analysing an opening? Assuming I know what that means, here are a few ideas:
- Learn good opening guidelines/principles (most of the really important ones are listed in Dan Heisman's NoviceNook http://www.chesscafe.com/text/heisman53.pdf)
- Read up on pawn structures. Soltis's Pawn Structure Chess and the venerable Pawn Power by Kmoch are excellent books. You'll FINALLY figure out why openings are the way they are....and you'll still be able to play strong opening moves even though you don't know the established theory.
