White:- 1) Accelerated London System. 2) Vienna Gambit. 3) Danish Gambit. Black:- 1) Caro-Kann Defence. 2) Scandinavian Defence. 3) French Defence. These are all the openings I liked and found wins when I was a complete beginner.

The basic three move Colle followed by C4 transfers to upper levels and opens up potential closed positions.

Better advice would be what, then? I'm a beginner looking for some solid openings to learn... it's confusing enough as it is to sift through all the possible choices, without reading unexplained criticism of beginner suggestions.

Never mind... I've now read your excellent responses to this type of question on a different "thread" (thank you for pointing it out to me, kindaspongey !!). Very useful advice given there https://www.chess.com/forum/view/chess-openings/setup-openings-vs-theory-which-is-better-for-beginner-players

Sound beginner advice is to defend 1 e4 e5 and 1 d4 d5 as black and to open 1 e4 as white.
In terms of soundness:
On 1 e4: 1...e5 > 1...c5 > 1...e6 > 1...c6 > 1... d5
Ruy Lopez > Italian > Scotch > Four knights >> Vienna Gambit > Danish Gambit
