its not a great opening and usually it transposes into the 2 knight defence or the giuoco piano, but it gives white a chance of black playing a poor move and letting white take the advantage.
It's not the best opening, but is not bad.

I bought that "Openings for white, explained" book and discovered it was actually a 'how to play the scotch gambit' book at heart. Not really what I was after.. I don't play the Scotch myself, by the way, but it's still very early for me to have an opinion about it.
