It depends on how you like to play. Declining puts black in a defensive position where white can keep you bottled up and a long build-up of pressure makes it more difficult to generate much counter-play. Accepting gives up the center but gives black much more activity, so if active piece play is your forte, accept the gambit. Of course you must have greater knowledge of opening theory if you want to go into more tactical lines.
Queen Gambit Accepted or Declined
Of course the QGD be more popular... but QGA can be strong weapon... Remember... don't try and keep the pawn?!
I like the QGD as it offers Black more opportunities to create complications. With the QGA, the amount of lines are quite narrow.
Taking the c4 pawn right away immediately clarifies the position in a distinct way.
I think of the QGA as more of a drawing weapon for Black, but not something I'd go into if I were fighting for a win.
If you decide to make either your main defence in club chess, you are going to be spending an awful lot of time defending the London. That's why I have taken up the Dutch.
Well if I had to play the queens gambit I would decline it. If you're able go into a Slav/Semi-Slav for a more interesting game
Queen's Gambit Accepted player at the moment. I try to change openings every 2 years. And I think I like the QGA for some more years.
indeed. I play QGD in any time control because it's solid, hard to crack and moves are easier to find.QGA is playable but find it easier to play as white than as black. I played it couple times as a surprise vs players whom are very familiar with me n my style of play but other than that I stick to declining. 😉
In QGD white has more space. In QGA black always try to break things down. And some lines white is the one who tries to make it solid.
EDIT: Wow! This thread has become a lot more active recently!
I prefer the Nimzo Indian, but if you are only referring to these 2 'defenses' I would pick the Queens Gambit Declined. If you play the Queens Gambit accepted, you have to play extremely perfectly, and know lots of opening theory to not lose straight of
In one of the variants, you just lose a piece straight off! In other opening varieties, black has a squished position and has trouble maneuvering their pieces.
Again, I would like to restate that this is just my opinion, and other people might disagree...
I am not a top top player, and I can say from experience Queen's Gambit Accepted is to be played if you are really knowing what you are doing. Queen's Gambit Declined is a solid opening for white, but if black adopts main/semi versions of Tarrasch Defence or Slav Defence, white would have to work for his victory. If you dont know what you are doing you can get crushed by going for Queen's Gambit Accepted.
