Obvious prophet is obvious.
queen's pawn opening will always lose

To whom it may concern, here is the prophet's only game on this site:

there you have it, d4 sucks. Not just on the first move, but any move, no matter what, even if it's checkmate

I have to say that i prefer the kings pawn and do mutch better with it but i do respect the queens pawn and so do many top GM's (which is why it still is played)

P-Q4 (or d4) Q:When white has the initiative (1st move) why the hell waste it on such an inept way to develop his pieces?
If you go to our very own chess.coms' game explorer, under master games, you will find that those who open with e4 win 38.4% of the time, but those who open with d4 win 38.7% of the time. Thats not much of a waste of time is it?

This thread is still alive? What the hell, chess.com?
Yes, and it interests me to read how some people feel so strongly, and even devoted, to certain openings. It reminds me of two guys arguing over with is best, a Ford pickup or a Dodge pickup.
It is important to note that in that game, the OP opened with, um......d4.
it must have been a misclick and the opponent wasn't sportsman enough to resign.
i like how there have been 39 responses (err..40 i guess now) but the OP has not returned to add one.

Play d4, it gives you an extra twenty minutes into the round to digest your lunch before you have to start thinking. Play c4 and you can bring your lunch to the board.

I think there is a key difference though because we know what the objectively right moves are. So for me discussions like this are always a bit pretentious, and I rarely enter into them. Play what you like, and if it works for you, great.
I might not always like what you play, but I will argue till the death for your right to play it.
My sentiments, too! I don't care what opening my opponents play. I just want to play. Let them throw whatever he/she wants at me. It won't insult me or offend me, as I read in another forum that it does to some players.

Why the hell would you want to look like an absolute moron, when if you kept quiet no one would notice?

Every game I started has been d4 and almost every game my opponent has started is e4. I have won 100% of the games.
d4 is won't always lose, but I might be exception.
Yeah, I guess you are an exception. I play d4 like 95% of the time when I'm white, and i win about 60% of the time.
d4 makes more of a closed game with lots of tactics and places to make mistades, where as e4 is the quicker way to development and a quicker game, however still filled with tactics. Generally e4 leads to more open games. Do whatever suits you.

Sometimes it's better to remain quiet and allow people to think you're ignorant than it is to open your mouth and resolve all doubt.

Is this quiet enough?

Yeeha! I didn't think ANYONE with even half a brain would give my retarded comment the slightest second thought. But 53! and from all over the world at that. I mean have a little more common sense people. Let me put it this way: The chicken came first.

Yeeha! I didn't think ANYONE with even half a brain would give my retarded comment the slightest second thought...
If you really thought that then you should envy the people with half a brain.

It all depends on which half. Right or left?

The greatest chess player to ever sit down to a game always played P-K4 to open ( that's e4 in case you were wondering) and he never lost a game unless he wanted to. Of course you know I'm talking about Bobby Fisher.

Always? I read that it was his favorite, but he always opened with it? You read that, or have you checked all of his games?
