Question on Sicilian Dragon - Clasical variation

Sort:

I was practicing against chessmaster and it started calculating after move 7.   I havent seen the move it came up with, the normal book move is 8. 0-0  0-0.

I cant see what is wrong with its move as it either opens the centre or leaves black with an isolated d-pawn.

I know Nh5  is sometimes wrong in similar positions and in the Levenfish variation (with f4 played) dxe , fxe Nd7 is the best move in a bad position.

Help Dragon players !!

Thats what I tried.  It didnt work.  Then I doubt I played the correct moves.  But surely there is some mention of this in opening books?  I tried in 'Sicilian Dragon Classical Variation' by Schneider which has most lines and 'Semi-Open Games' by Panov which gives all sorts of trap lines.  Suppose I'll have to check an online database ! I checked that line on chess assistant (only 4 games) , black took on e5 and scored better than 60 %

I belive, the black king will be perfectly save on c7 .

Anyway, check with Rybka, or Fritz. I guess they just take the pawn, and after Qxd8 Kxd8 there is no compensation (that is, they will probably evaluate it with -0.5 or even -0.8 pawns).

Computers like material, true!

So analyse with depth of 18-20 halfmoves - that is, 9 -10 moves for for each player. If the evaluation does not change, you can be pretty sure, that the program is right!

P.S. The fact that it is an unknown variation, is a strong hint that e4-e5 is bad!

Cheers Mandelshtam,

The Classical Dragon is the reason I don't always play the Dragon.  At 66, I fall asleep easily, especially of an afternoon.

I am thinking for Black, his  "a"  pawn at a6, with QR to b8.

Then maybe Qa5 as a general strategy.
