its quite strong and practical. Maybe less good than scotch, Italian or Ruy Lopez though. It’s fine at all levels but it might be better to learn something else to have another weapon when you hit 1600-1800 maybe
Rate Vienna game in scale of 10......

At 1200 blitz, the Vienna is an opening that offers everything you could need. If you like the positions, the opening is absolutely sound.

Depends on the variation:
I would rate the g3 vienna (mieses/paulsen) with 8.5, great opening
The nc3 nf6 bc4 (where black doesn’t play nxe4) vienna is fine, 7 IMO
The nc3 nf6 bc4 nxe4 qh5 vienna i would rate 7.5 as white can get an attack even if black doesn’t fall for the trap (monster declined). Black has to play some moves like nc6 to go na5 and chase the bishop
The Vienna gambit i don’t really like because if black knows what they’re doing black can get a comfortable position, the d5 lines and the bardeleben against qf3, i would rank it in 6/10

White doesn’t have to play f4. It’s not the best objectively and doesn’t give the best practical chances imo. It’s not bad, but meh there are better ways to play the Vienna
