I am having problem with this issue. My winning percentage from 30 day 42% when i play black and white plays king's pawn opening.

I am happy with white playing queen's pawn opening, i have 59 % winning percentage when i am black in this case.

Also when i play white winning percentage is 54%

So the problem is 42% as i mentioned. And the king's pawn opening is the most common.

I would be happy if you guys know some solid openings for black that i should play for black against king's pawn.

I tried sicilian, but it didn't really worked out for me.

Would appreciate links and tips.

Thank you

Italian is personally my favorite for kings pawn

You need to understand what the middle game plans are. I wouldn't worry a lot about your win rate here just try and play the ideas, if you could win 42% of your games with black in real life you'd be a master very quickly. But on task, are you playing the slav defense against d4?

Thanks for answering. Middle game is challenging, many players would agree on that. I have read some books on that matter, but not sure if I am so strategywise in middlegame. I think I have learned tactics well. Maybe I go back to basics and play giuoco piano for black for a while and see how it goes.

Yes many times I play slav. Especially for queen's gambit.

Trying to learn also little bit french defense, but it's little bit passive for my taste. In the other hand it gives nice centre control many times

I find the Petroff pretty easy to equalize with. In online games white will often avoid it by playing 3. Nc3 or 3. Bc4 which usually doesn't give me much trouble, When I actually do get a mainline petroff I probably win more often than I should....mostly because my endgame knowledge is a bit better than that of many of my opponents. You may also see some kings gambit especially in blitz. There are probably other things white can try but I find what I have mentioned to be the most common

Oh  forgot to mention I learned the Petroff from the book "Playing the Petroff a bulletproof reportoire" by Swapnil Dhopade The author also covers all sorts of things where white avoids the Petroff, although he doesn't cover the 4 Knights. (3. Nc3 Nc6) he suggests 3. Bb4 instead which is also probably fine. I go for the 4 knights because I also play it with white. BTW I learned the 4 knight from Ginger GMs chessbase DVD 4 Knights rocket repertoire which covers the main ideas pretty well I think.

Cool. I have only played petrov half year ago, when my opponents fell to starting queen capture trick. Thanks for book suggestion! Allthough I might try some online courses for petrov, because i prefer sometimes learning from vids. Seems like i take advice from right man, you have been winning alot. Thanks

Thanks for the compliment, but I think actually I haven't played all that great here lately despite having some pretty good results in OTB. I actually hit a lifetime high in my OTB rating after my last tournament but wasn't that happy with the quality of my games. I could say part of the problem is the fast time control (g30+5 sec delay), but after seeing some of the games in the world blitz and rapid championship, I don't consider that a valid excuse anymore. If those guys can produce some beautiful games in those time controls, I feel I should be able to too....perhaps not at the level of those games but at least some games I can be proud of. Anyway that is my goal in my next tournament.....to produce some high quality wins.

I started playing chess 2022 july and at the moment my rating is 1355.

It has been a rollercoaster, good and bad games. Most of all, I have tried to learn from my mistakes, that is the way to develop.

Now I am gonna participate my first real tournament in chess competition in two weeks.

Very interesting to see how I am gonna hold my own against other players.

Tournament is 90 min/40 moves so on.

i have been playing mainly 10 min rapid online.

Have to take my time and try not to rush.

Try playing the Caro-Kann. If you know it well it can be very powerful. Also a Sicilian with an early fianchetto on the kingside works well for me personally.

Also try to avoid e5. It’s tough to get an early initiative in Italian, Ruy Lopez as black
