Marshall Gambit is a very complex and highly theoretical opening and I seriously doubt it is usefull for anybody under 2000ish.

Black sacrafices a pawn and has dynamic compensation based on active development and the bishoppair. This means you need to have 2 very important weapons in your arsenal

1. Player with 2 bishops .. specially if you have to defend a pawn down endgame.

2. Keeping you initiative going by giving white problems to solve.

Both these skills are generally not present in lower rater players who tend to see things on a move to move basis.

If you really insist on playing the Marshall I suggest the DVD of Jan Gustafsson where he explains all the attacking and defensive resources. Please note that this is a 5 hour dvd with lots of move sequenses that are complex and go till move 20 or further. And as a black player you really have to know most (another reason the Marshall is not so good for lower rater players)

Hmm....agreed Marshall gambit is bit complicated n lot of variation. ...I would b playing with 1500/1600 rated player even @ this level nobody studies opening line 20 moves deep....

I was interested in knowing thematic idea 4 Black how black could set mate attack???
