But is the begin of the Schliman Defense
Ruy Lopez Schlimann Defense
It almost looks as if Radjabov has refuted the Ruy Lopez with his Schliemann games, in 2008-11 he has played it against Anand, Carlsen, Topalov, Ivanchuk, Svidler, Mamedyarov, Nisipeanu, Polgar, Adams and Karjakin (twice), going +1 -0 =10. If it would be impossible to win against 3. ... f5 even for the 2800 players the Ruy Lopez can't be good, but there has to be some way to beat it, it just doesn't look right.

You folks probably all already know, the chess.com thematic tournament starting up on November 1 is the Ruy Lopez Schliemann. It's a good opportunity to get in 10 CC games with this opening (or more games if you advance).

Melvinbluestone that position is just beyond analysis I spent about an hour with board and men you just seem to get deeper and deeper with no real resolution. Very dangerous over the board against a good player. Having looked hard I would play Qe2 but I would never have found that OTB.

4. d3 is a passion killer. White avoids sharp tactics and can work on the positional deficiencies of 3...f5. The S is good in Blitz as a surprise but I wouldn't try it in TB.

4.d3 is a little more quiet than the other lines but nothing to worry about:) ivanchuk beat anands 4.d3 schliemann just a few days ago with full time so its not a problem for us humans at least
