Scandinavian Defense

I just found the Scandinavian Defense and wanted to try it out, however every single time that I played 1. e4 d5, they responded with 2. Nc3. What should I do here, and why is 2. exd5 a better move (if they ignore the possibility of Nc3 in all of the analyses it's probably suboptimal)? Thanks for helping out a noob like me! :P

Well, at first glance you can play 2...d4 gaining a tempo on the knight, then maybe play 3...e5 to consolidate the center.

Would 3...Nc6 have a similar effect? I am merely trying to explore all of the meaningful possible outcomes here.

Nothing wrong with 3...Nc6. If you don't play Nc6 you have the flexibily of playing c5 before developing the knight and the possibility of developing the knight to d7 instead, but 3...Nc6 is fine too.

If White is playing for any sort of advantage, he needs to accept the pawn, or at least advance if he wants a French. From there, you can recapture with the Queen, or play Nf6. I personally prefer Nf6.
