DEAR  FORUM MEMBER, I AGAIN ASK FOR  YOUR  OPINION DRAWN FROM  YOUR  KNOWLEDGE OF THE  SCOTCH OPENING ECO#44.

FIRST, WHO  DO YOU FEEL WAS THE BEST  PLAYER TO PLAY THIS OPENING ?

I KNOW THAT  GM KASPOROV USED IT AND WON AT LEAST TWICE AGAINST KARPOV AND I ALSO KNOW  STEINITZ HAD A GOOD VARIATION AS BLACK?

LASTLY IS THIS  MAINLY  A  WHITE OR  BLACK OPENING AND WHAT  WOULD BE IN YOUR OPINION BE  THE BEST LINE TO PLAY AS  WHITE?

THANKS  FOR  YOUR  EXPERTICE  AS ALWAYS    TONY   (antne003)

This depends on Black! 1.e4 e5 2.Knf3 Knc6 3.d4 ed 4.Knxd4 and now Black has some possibilities: 4.- Bc5 or Qh4 or Knf6...next White has to react to that choice!

Eventhorizon, thank  you  much for  your  feedback, i'm  just above a beginner  level  and i like the  ascotch, but  want  to  know more lines for  white  to  give me a  better  position advantage.  instead  of move 4 nxd4,  i  was  looking for other  possibilities  for  white  that  would be  better

thanks  tony from  the jersey shore usa

If you don't want to play 4.Nxd4 then 4.c3 (scotch gambit) is an option.

As for the best line to play, that all depends on the line black chooses.

antne003

zanmi,  yes,  it  has to be that  wauy,  books  just  show  black and white  lines when  displaying  a certain openingh,  but  what  if  he  doesn't  make that  chereograph move and makes  another, that line  won't  work,  thanks
