I don't like this variation because white is giving up his bishop pair in the very opening.

White have some compensation in faster development. The bishop pair in this opening is strong only if you trade rooks and queen.

I can't disagree more. Bishop pair is strong with or without heavy peaces on the board. Also, white is losing one move with taking the knight, so I don't see fast development, I only see better position for black. We'll try this...

White is trading his bishop for a knight- and a stable, semi-closed pawn structure.
As it is very hard for Black to open up the position effectively, the knight is about as strong as the corresponding Bishop.
White plans to set up his pawns on light squares, on which they will not block the remaining bishop- but if White hadn't exchanged his light-squared one, it would make it a bad bishop.
Thanks to the doubled c-pawns, it's hard to effectively attack White's center.
From the pointers mentioned above, it may sound like White is better- but the game is still, as normal, about equal- even if White doesn't open the position, the bishop pair may prove its worth in the long run.

What is general plan for black in this opening after bishop takes Night on c6 and double up pawns?
