Solid Opening Repetoire

Sort:

Hello everyone, I've been trying to develop my repetoire, and I find I like playing systems where I'm able to develop all my pieces in a solid manner before going for blood (although, of course sometimes my opponent will attempt to throw a wrench in these plans).

So far, for white, I've enjoyed playing the Colle system and it's sister systems (London, Torre Attack), and have been trying the KIA

As black, I prefer the Sicilian, mainly the Dragon Variation, the KID, and more recently, I've been really liking the QID. Been looking into the Pirc as well.

I'm just wondering if there is any openings besides these that have a "systematic" approach, as in, a specific pattern that doesn't neccesarily require exchanges or heavy-duty mainline theory to understand. Something solid I could set up with consideration, but not necessarily dependent on my opponents moves.

Any comments appreciated, thank you.

Yes, I agree. Perhaps systematic isn't the right word. I suppose what I mean is that I enjoy the aesthetic and tactical value of a "formation" so to speak, before I attack.

Look at the Philidor.  Either the modern Hanham (d6, Nf6, Nbd7, and a later e5, Be7, and 0-0) or the Antoshin (e5, d6, exd4, Nf6, Be7, 0-0 against the mainline).

Solid as a rock, and not many ways for white to deviate where you won't end up in something similar.
