Strategy request in King's Indian Panno variation with 9. b3

Often 9. Nd2 is played here instead.

I'm looking for strategic motif(s) for this variation for black, such as annotated games or videos demonstrating a plan for black.  If somebody could direct me to something tangible it would be great!

Good question, this is the Yugoslav variation by the way.

I have read Bologan's Kings Indian book and it's an excellent source for understanding the the themes, plans, and ideas in every Kings Indian line from the black side. Lines are enterprising and explanation quite thorough (it's 448 pages long) I like most of his opening suggestions against the typical white systems.

For good measure, your diagram position is covered in Chapter 30, Yugoslav variation, page 345, line A, 9.b3

P.S. For me the book was so inspiring I was studying it once a week in a nice library. Especially if you bring a board, notebook, and sticky notes with you, this is great.

Yeah, Panno is the Yugoslav happy.png

Thanks for the heads up. I'm chasing this book as I type this. PDF coming up. I do have a bunch of bought videos (in a package deal via IChess) but only one of the four authors cover the Yugoslav Nd2 variant but without offering middle game ideas. Lot of courses ignore the various fianchetto variations of KID.

Thanks for helping me out again. I've seen you before.

Sure, no problem.

I think there are ways for searching for the PDF for free. If you could get your hands on a PGN (so you could move through chessbase) it's even better.

I've personally always preferred to read from a paperback book, but it's a personal preference. As mentioned it's always great to do things on a real board from the opening book.

Yes, that's one of the reasons I love Bologan's book and use it for learning the opening from both colors. I feel he's done a tremendous job covering the plans, and my favorite chapters are the Fienchettoes, (including Yugoslav/Panno) English/Botvinnik systems (where he recommends this super tricky plan of Ne8-c6-Nc7-a6-b5! which, if memory serves, won me a game in the titled Tuesday event a long time ago) and his recommendations against the London System which I'm a fan of from both colors (he recommends transposing to a Grunfeld).

I've just converted a Kindle version to PDF and HTML5. It truly is an elaborate book. It looks like b3 variation can be met with the same overall strategy as with the Nd2 variation.  At first glance that is.

Bologan truly put his heart and soul in it. Lot of side lines. Some can't stand this, but its the understanding of  little odds, ends and potential pitfalls that puts a variation in its proper context.

I'll be looking for PGN's now. If I find something I tell you. Thank you so much for your help.

I bet you'll find this inspiring! It was for me as a KID player (transforming from Dutch player). Here black gives up a pawn and a tempo to gain a perfectly reasonable initiative! Game makes so much sense, it's easily memorable in its entirety!
