The whole idea by white is a failure.

The Fritz is certainly insteresting but totally unneeded, as Black can simply play 3...c6 4.cd5 cd5 5.Qb3 Nf6 6.Nc3 (the direct 6.Qxb7 Nbd7 is probably even worse) e6 7.Qxb7 Nbd7, when one need not be a genius to see that white's opening extravaganza has earned him a clearly inferior position.

.30 to .34 is not worse than the French Defense.

3...c6 gives white an advantage.

Listen son, I dont give the slightest f&ck about what your unplugged Rybka claims. I won't ask you to grow up, or realize that nobody cares about the remarks of a chess illiterate. I will just ask you to say something with a meaning, and not something to attract attention.

You seem upset. Chess is going to the ways of checker.

You might as well just give up trying to refute the line.

I give it about 10-20 years before computers are no longer defeatable.

Anyways, 3...c6 leads to an even game. I don't see anything refutable here.

Yeah, there's no doubt black has a better position.

The point behind the Grob is to get the opponent off his balance.

Most players don't know what to do when the Grob is played.

A lot of the time I see e5.

This position is still not as good as this:

grant_obama

this is no better than parham and whatever qxf7+ crap there is

this is not a attack, this is to let the others know what you really are.

I bet if someone played the Perham Attack against you, you would start raging and lose.

That's the point.

A fail opening?

It leads to an even game. A fail opening would be something that leads to an instant loss.

Players don't play this opening for an advantage. It's more for psychological effect.

Is that why players of your rank and higher have played it with success?

u have to know that no opening leads to instant mate unless u include traps and fools mate. I wouldnt even be surprised if someone wants to play this with me. Weakening the kingside and not controlling the center ....

the only guy I've ever seen OTB play the Grob is wild and crazy guy Sam Sloan in a tournament game 2 years ago against FM Eric Schiller.  And won. In the same tournament he lost to a 10 year old in 11 moves, with Sloan playing Damiano's Defense with black.

The opening is not an instant loss, but it's pretty bad.

grob = fail.

How is it a fail? It's an even game.

Instead of taking the pawn, white is supposed to play Nc3.

Or white could just take the bishop rather than take the pawn. seeing as 6: ... e6 opens the bishop to a fork with qa4+

This opening is fine. Its probably wise for black to decline the gambit. 2 ...e5 makes sense

Simple moves win why does black need get fancy; that is IM pfren  point.
