Is there a name for this Black defence against white? I've played some good games against beginners and somewhat against more advanced players. 1 e4 e6 2. d4 d6 3. Nc3 Be7 4. Nf3 Nd7 5. Bd7 c7.

After a move like 5 ... c7, you better make sure that you pushed your clock button.

Actually, I made a mistake the move is not c7, but c6. Tonight, I won a couple of my games with this defence albeit the last one was well-played againt very good players!

From looking at some of the French defences, I think that this defence actually incorporates, some of the same moves from the Advance and Exchange variations of the French defence.

It is true, I don't much about opening theory, but I do know some. But I like to explore my options. I know the value of the central squares and in my opinion, I have them well guarded after this sequence of moves:

1.Nf3-- e6, 2.Nc3 -- d6, 3.e4 -- Be7. 4.d4 -- Nd7, 5.Be3 -- c5, 6.Bd3 -- Ngf6.
