So let me get this straight: the OP asks about the 3.g3 variation of the Vienna, and the thread gets hi-jacked by retards that want to talk about 1...c5 or 2.Nf3 or 2.Bc4?  WTF is wrong with you?

Once, for fun, I tried to list stuff that White might face while trying to go for the whole 1 e4 e5 2 Nf3 Nc6 3 Bb5 a6 4 Ba4 Nf6 5 0-0 Be7 6 Re1 b5 7 Bb3 d6 8 c3 0-0 9 h3 thing:

Nimzowitsch, Scandinavian, Alekhine, Modern, Pirc, Caro-Kann, French, Sicilian, Elephant, Latvian, Philidor, Petroff, Bird, Fianchetto, Steinitz, Cordel, Schliemann, Berlin, Steinitz Deferred, Moller, Archangel, Open, Marshall, Smyslov, Breyer, Karpov, Zaitsev, Chigorin

Here is a review of the Vienna book:

I think the only independent lines arise when Black plays for an early ...d5 because there are some different defenses for Black. If Black just plays a solid setup w/ ...e5, ...Nc6, ...Bc5, ...d6 etc then you usually end up in either the four knights glek (1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Nc3 Nf6 4.g3) or you can try a postion with Nge2.

IM Jan Pinski's 2003 book, The Four Knights, has about 50 pages on 1 e4 e5 2 Nf3 Nc6 3 Nc3 Nf6 4 g3.

Nothing you write in this thread demonstrates any interest on your part in 1.e4 e5 2.Nc3 -- "Instead of 2.Nc3 I play 2.Nf3." -- "1...C5 is best."  If you want to talk about those openings, do it in a thread that has to do with them.  If you instead derail topics, you deserve all the scolding you get, and it has nothing to do with you being "just a learner in chess", but rather somebody who is being inconsiderate to the OP.

Here, one can find a review of that Pinski book with a discussion of the position that can arise from 1 e4 e5 2 Nc3 Nf6 3 Nf3 Nc6 4 g3.
