I quoted Hikaru Nakamura, who said the same thing as a joke happy.png

I think it looks decent, however no black player will know how to play against it which mean no theory at all will almost ever be played. Therefore I would avoid it, because I like to study theory.

From OP yes.

And if you want bird type setup better to enter it through something like Nimzo Larsen.

Sometimes "cowardliness" is actually a strategy. The confusion between the two is getting old.

Pierre bot plays it always as white. I have fairly good success against him but haven't yet taken best advantage of pawn to F4..

Leningrad Bird is Pretty good

It is good. It is a Dutch Defence with an extra tempo. Played by Larsen and Carsen. If you play Dutch as black then Bird as white makes sense.

ShamusMcFlannigan

Totally sound and a lot of fun at any time control.  It comes in handy when you know your opponent just memorized 30 moves of Grunfeld or Najdorf theory also.

DasBurner

Its fine, not amazing and not horrible

JackRoach

It's ok, but there are better options.

I think Bird's Opening (1.f4) gives away white's theoretical half-pawn opening advantage, allowing black to equalize immediately.  But it is playable, and fun especially if black allows white to successfully play an early e4.

Easy to kill with From

No, you can just transpose to King's Gambit if the From Gambit is played.  So, it's easy to equalize...not to kill.

The poster above me is essentially correct...the Bird gives away White's opening advantage and allow Black equal footing almost immediately.
