Falkbeer counter gambit.
What is the strongest refutation for the Muzio Gambit?

There is no refutation of the muzio gambit
The best refutation of systems you don't like is that you avoid them alltogether. Falkbeer avoids a lot of dirty king's gambit tricks including the Muzio gambit.
From what I've read the King's Gambit really poses no threat, so accepting it is the best way to refute it.
Plus, why should I always cower in fear whenever it shows up?
That will give my opponent a huge confidence boost.

This may be true in theory. But in practice I tend lose when accepting it and tend to win when playing the counter gambit.

Have you tried 2...Nf6?

4...Bg7 is quite close to a refutation. Black is not winning, but white's compensation for the missing pawn is scetchy, at best.
Even at modern correspondence level (= engines allowed) white's score is absolutely horrible.
This is in theory... in practice, things are not so clear, Black does have to be careful, and understand what and why he is moving on the board.

Have you tried 2...Nf6?
Yes, I was thinking about playing 2. ... Nf6. But I messed it up in a game and never tried it again. I always feel that if you accept the psychological battle is won by white anyway.
I need to know, because it shows up in almost every game I play.
