What opening do you prefer to counter the sicilian?

Hey, i recently started playing 1.e4, and i tried out the Grand Prix and 2. Nf3 3. d4 but i do not understand it as much as the grand prix, but i do not enjoy playing the grand prix either, so can you guys show me your opening repertoire?

2. c3, the Alapin, and 2. Nc3, the Closed Sicilian, are decent tries. Neither is as ambitious as the Open Sicilian (2. Nf3 and 3. d4), but they are perfectly playable. Or you can play 2. Nf3 and then answer 2...d6  or 2...Nc6 with 3. Bb5.

There are other lines, but those are some of the more popular. You can check the opening explorer on this site and see what you are most comfortable with.

I play English/Yugoslav in casual games. In serious tourneys, the Alapin. Bullet or Blitz, the Wing Gambit(which I don't actually know the theory xD)

if you are a tactical and attacker player i recommend you the smith morra gambit i'v been playing it for years and  have pretty good resault with it even in classical chess, black has to be very careful and accurate. even with good defence the game would still be equal, you can find some videos on youtube. i also play the grand prix  as an additional weapon , but it needs  study and theoretical knowledge .

I don't like the d4 main lines either.
Well, I often like them... they're good positions for white.
What I don't like is tons of memorization and games where it's a test of who studied at home more.

This is what I will recommend. I play all these (except I like to experiment against 2...g6 sometimes).

Make sure you drive the kingside attack home.

I'd like to thank you, but ive heard that the rossolimo is a very complex opening, you need to learn a lot of theory in order to master it. It is similar to the Ruy Lopez and that is very positional. Do you know all the theory to this ?

Thank you! i may want to try the smith morra gambit, it seems fun, but i think theres a lot of counters against it, do you mind giving me some theory?

I have file on all those openings, yeah there's theory and I have games with notes and stuff.

But... I mean... they can also be pretty simple because we're not playing GMs happy.png

Oh, I thought I wrote it, but I don't see it.

I'm not saying to use that setup forever. I'm saying it's fine as a crutch. I was trying to say you can start playing the opening right away while you work to learn various lines and get them into your game.

English Attack is basically the Yugoslav except against the Najdorf,Scheveningen and Classical. The Wing Gambit is an unsound anti-sicilian starting with 1.e4 c5 2. b4.

I don’t really know much opening theory, so I really can’t say
Preggo_Basashi

By the way, my choices are a little bland.

Yugoslav setup (or gambits) vs everything would probably be a lot more fun haha happy.png

Just pick whatever suits you. I often enjoy what others might call boring grinding type games.
