I prefer the breyer ...

Just as me, but I find the Soviet name for it (Borisenko-Furman) 1,000 times cooler!

Berlin :)

I thought you don't play it as black (like Fischer)?!

Modern steinitz

Steinitz or Berlin ...although I'm still finding my rhythm with this opening as I suspect I will be for a long, long time.

I also prefer the Breyer.

You wouldn't be able to play a Modern Steinitz or Breyer against me.  I'll go main lines against stuff like the Berlin, Classical, 3...f5, Steinitz, Bird's, etc.

However, those that play 3...a6, I'm taking the Knight.  No Breyer, no Zaitsev, no Chigorin, no Modern Steintiz, no Moller, no Archangel, etc.

I found a number of variations, obviously but is this what you're referring to by the Breyer?

Warbringer33, Black's 9th move in your hyperlink is what defines the Breyer.  The subsequent moves may be the main line - can't say for sure.

Yes , thats mainline Breyer but 12... Re8 is more often played and is what I prefer to the immediate 12...c5 .

#4 is for you and #6 for me. Wink

Yep, played Berlin quite a few times against NewArd (3 draws in non-bullet OTB games).

I have faced ( as white ) 2 Berlins in which both my opponents were GMs : Julio Granda Zuniga  and Nikolai Mitkov ... you can guess the result . Wink

First I played for a while scandinavian defence, switched to icelandic gambit, then tried to get basic 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 and go from there.

Now days I'm trying to learn Alekhine defence.

The exchange is a good choice imo and certainly limits what you have to know . I have a good friend that plays only the exchange against 3...a6 for decades now and I am pretty sure you know him too Thriller ... I sometimes play the exchange as well but more often play 4 Ba4 and have a pet line I try to get into around move 5/6   as white .

The game I refer to took place in Zafra Spain , where I also played black in a breyer against Oleg Korneev ... it was a Ruy Lopez theme tournament .  The tourney was won by a young Spaniard ahead of several GMs , including Zuniga,Korneev and Michael Adams !
