Why do people keep playing e4?

Very few people here will ever make a living from Chess. I certainly never will. I am a poor Chess player. I have been experimenting with various things for some time to see which fits best for me and I have reached the conclusion that I like E4. Copying what the Super GM's do would be utterly soul destroying. In many cases they are trying to avoid losing. Fair enough. Money is on the line.

For me. I want to destroy or be destroyed. Not interested in a draw. I do not care about points. 

I do not even like the top E4-E5 openings too much. Prefer Vienna Game, Bishops Opening and Centre Game. But that is fine. I will never make a cent/penny from Chess. 

People forget that the Colle is a D4 opening. And therefore D4 is ultimately for sissies.

I play for fun, on the reasonable grounds my family would starve to death if I relied on my chess ability to make ends meet. It's ok to agree or disagree on the best opening, personally I like the Evans Gambit, win or lose it's always a fun game. 

I don't know, I think it's just a matter of prefrence. I play d4 but there's nothing wrong with e4.

i have been told time and time again by experts here only play the e4 move every time i play something else i get a message saying don't do that - so trying to be a goodd little student of the game i now only play e4 then knight out then bishop out then c3 or 4 depending -- but then again i get messages saying iam wrong ---

I play 1. d4 because it has less opening traps than 1. e4 and I have an old brain, so I have less ability to remember openings than younger people.

But 1. e4, 1. c4, 1. Nf3 and 1. g3 are all perfectly good opening moves, too.
