Why play the Alekhine?

 In that position, Black is fine. Material is even and black's king is completely safe. Also black has the bishop pair.

Yeah, agree with you all the way. I play that line as WT in blitz and it is deadly vs most under 1900 or so. BL can have a lot of difficulties with the holes and antipositional aspects he gets into. Usually it is a surprise & BL players seldom understand what is needed, plus feels very unnatural, so gives great chances to err & just further weaken their position

Unfortunately, yes there is a line, one that I am aware of that gives black a solid plus. Cannot recall the exact moves and a quick look reveals the line is not in MCO-14, but believe it is in MCO-12. Since i had to have gotten it from there, or BCO of the time. It's good enough that I would never venture the WT side in a slow tournament vs a regular Alekhine's player.

Right about holding the N too. Believe I had it worked out to mating if the King tried to walk forward and hold the N.
