Worst Opening

Several are tied for worst: a4, h4, Na3, Nh3, f3.

Is that game for real - and if so what's the story behind it?
It is hard to believe that such a high rated player would play like this. The game was either fixed, or there was some type of strange wager placed...lol
Has anyone seen this forum? It's not f3, but it deals with a dubious defense to King's Gambit involving 3...f6

It was real, but of course it wasn't serious. Kuppenheims hosts an annual 12-hour, 50 round blitz tournament. Schneider, when paired against a super-GM, probably decided that was a good round to take a break and conserve his energy... and he decided to have a little fun at the same time. Van Wely is apparently a man of good humor--he didn't go for the immediate mate in one. Was a wager involved? Perhaps! ;)

1.Nh3 seems bad in comparison to 1.Nf3. There are a bunch of hypermodern games though where white did play it. Almost all listed as A00 irregular opening. Must have just been having fun with it. 167 games, 31% 1-0, 47% 0-1, 22% 1/2-1/2.
What about 1.a4 and 1h4? Are they the same or is one worse than the other?
Fritz says that the Grob is the worst. I disagree. I believe f3 and a4 are the worst. a4 is worse than h4 because h4 presents possiblilities of attacking with a pawn storm.

lol..that one is funny.. anyway I too think that f3 is a bad choice for an opening. It restricts the King's Knight movement and the opponent has a bettershot at Center-control among others
