I believe the biggest difference was nerves, and this does have to do with age. Often Anand would reach a slightly favorable position, but he did not seem to believe that he could convert those positions into wins. I am an older player and I know that I am not the bold, impetuous player of my youth. In some ways I am a better player, but in other ways it weakens my game. Faced with a calculating machine like Carlsen, I think Anand just lost his nerve in key positions. Look at the "double blunder" in game six. Maybe Anand did not see his opportunity because he simply could not believe Carlsen would give him such a gift.
I think at the beginning of the match, Carlsen was overconfident. When he lost game 3, he realized he lost that game because Anand had out prepared him. I think this caused Carlsen to get serious about his own opening preparation.
Anand is a great player and certaininaly competitive with the world elite but age has taken its toll and he is no longer the agrressive "Tiger of Madras". His one attempt to turn back the clock resulted in a bad rook sacrifice.
Finally I think that as this time, Carlsen is simply better than Anand. Is he better than Anand was at his prime? We will never know.
Friends, we saw, Magnus Carlsen retained his title by defeating Anand in 11th game.
i think Anand played much better than last year Chennai championship. still he he lost.
what made a real difference between Magnus & Carlsen?
generation advatnage?
Carlsen prepaered better & better with better gadgets since childhood. young age, better reflexes...
