fischer, morphy, capablanca in that order are the best chess players of all time.

many would say magnus, or kasprarov. but its without a doubt bobby fischer. the reason is shear strength. Magnus and kasparov had the computer. the reason the computer so important in chess is because of opening theory, first 15 or less moves in a classical game of chess (which is why he advocated for fischerrandom). Although Magnus and kasparov are great chess players, an enormous part of their success is attributed to computer opening theory by memorizing opening lines.

Bobby fischer is the greatest simply because of the acquired knowledge he culminated. At the age of 6 his sister bought a chess set at a candy shop under their New York Brooklyn apartment. They learned the moves from the instructions inside, about a year later his mother, Regina started to notice bobby waking up before her to get ready for work, he would play chess game with himself, and when she came back from work he would be sitting in the same spot playing chess with himself. A couple moths after the same routine, she was worried something was wrong with the boy, she took him to two psychologists. The first didnt have anything to say, the second said, "dont worry, there are worst thing to be obsessed about then chess.". Bobby Fischer would spend 15+ hours a day studying chess since age 7. His mother was looking for a place where he could play chess and was told a club called the Marshall, a chess club now closed, to see if they could play with him. The owner, Carmine Nigro, was hesitant to let him play because it was an 18+ only club but his mother insisted. So he decided to play a game and will make the decision from there, needless to say, they let him join the club.

At age 14 Fischer played his first masters tournament. A tournament that included Reshevsky, and both Donald and Robert Byrne. 17 moves in grandmasters lean in to watch a kid push wood (bobby's the kid). Queen sacrifice, wind mill, mating net so perfect not only it got the brilliancy prize but hans komoch called it "the game of the century", over night he got famous in the chess world. The next year he was qualified to play for the candidates which gave him the GM title by default.

Hes the best because, he played the most computer like chess before there was computers. I think I read somewhere he had 99% chance of spotting a forced mate. And he has the highest points acquired in one year, by far greater than anybody else. And ELO inflation would give him a rating over 3000.
