I didn't ask anybody to. Besides, what behavior are you talking about?

Seeing, they will not see, and hearing they will not hear.  Woodshover, you just accused myself and SeamusORiley of "making excuses for the jerk" "because he was a great chess player, I imagine in an attempt to make us feel like cheap immoral sell-outs.  It was easy for you to shoot that out there, wasn't it?  Accusing us, and calling a man a jerk.  Did you even give that statement a second thought?  Did you even consider how it might make us feel?  Did you even consider how it made you look?  Perhaps you are accustomed to that kind of behavior and don't think a thing about making such kinds of statements in a public post.  Perhaps you might apologize and change your ways.  I forgive easily and would prefer you as a friend!

Are you not paying attention?

NM Reb, that was funny!

:-)

Yes, how dare woodshover make judgmental diagnoses of personality without having first-hand knowledge of the person involved.

@TheGrobe and theoretical boy:  Thanks to you both.

I detect sarcasm in post 70, but cannot quite decide if it was directed toward woodshover, or his detractors, or both.

Do you think Akiba Rubinstein had Aspergers?  How about Sherlock Holmes ( a fictional character, but patterned after a doctor Dole knew)?

Interesting post by the OP, on this one....
"6. Poor social ability"   he seem to get along quite well with the Philippines after 1972, no ?

Id like to secularlize chess. For starters, lets rename bishops 'bobbies'.

And replace kings by Fischer-kings?

Avatar of Kittysafe

I agree, we should enlighten chess away from war characters, and make them all adorable kitties.

Avatar of Elroch

Right. Call those nasty violent knights "sea-horses", like they really are.

Hmmm. What would be a more class-free name for pawns?

Serfs?

Wait -- I think I went the wrong way on that one.

Proletariat?

Plebs?

Note that I'm limiting myself to names that aren't classless....

Bowling pins? Skittles?

Second thought...ants are too smart to be called Pawns, so I may havce to retract that idea.  Ants work by themselves, and never stop moving.  They don't attack when another ant passes by them on the left or to the right, so ignore that scenario.

Maybe a congressman?!

I think this idea needs a new topic. It has already de-railed from the OP.
