Did Bobby Fischer have Aspergers Syndrome?

Fair enough. I was being somewhat facetious, as you probably guessed.

I'm not sure if Fischer had Asperger's Syndrome or not, but I'm pretty sure he had Asshat Syndrome.

I fail to see why speculating is dangerous.  Is not that we are going to try and treat Fischer for the  disorder.  I don't see it any more dangerous than speculating if Hamlet was actually mad.

Well for starters Fischer's not a fictional character so it's disrespectful at a minimum, but it also sends a message that a condition like Aspergers can be diagnosed:

1. Having never met the subject
2. Based on anecdotal and circumstantial evidence
3. By laypersons

I don't think there is anything disrespectful about Aspergers.  A lot of brillant sucessful people have it.   But if for the sake of argument we say it is disrespectful that is long way from dangerous. 

There's really nothing wrong with discussing it...

Could you imagine if we weren't allowed to discuss whether or not certain famous, brilliant people from the past had Asperger's? (or -insert any disorder or condition here-)

...and how do you know there aren't people in this discussion who:

a) have met Bobby

b) have evidence

c) have experience with psychology/psychological disorders

It's a simple quest for insight into the life of this crazy, brilliant man who is so hated and admired alike.

Anyone who would be in a position to confirm such a diagnosis wouldn't be doing it here, and if they did would probably be breaching an ethical oath they'd taken at some point in their career.

  We aren't guessing.  If you read the post in it's entirety, you'd know several of us have already mentioned Fischer publically and privately displayed perhaps 6 or 8 of the distiguising characteristics of Aspies. Besides this, which should be enough by itself to justify speculation, someone mentioned that a childhood friend of Fischer said fischer was diagnosed with aspergers.  I don't know what the ... you are talking about  with your "wild ass guesses".  Do you?  Or did you just read a couple posts and then decide to make an ass of yourself by saying something that superficially looks funny but is actually the remark of a fool?

You don't know that he made an ass of himself. You're just speculating.

I have a hard time believing that you haven't been taught how the scientific method works.
