Does mental state affect chess playing ?

It seems like playing chess is affected by the mental state you are in. If one is tensed he/she may find it tough to make a smart move.

I would agree with that. Unless your a strong enough player that it doesn't matter what mood/mental state your in chess is a piece of cake

No matter how strong a player you are-your mental state affects your chess playing. chess is not a piece of cake for anybody.

Chess is a mental game, apparently the mental state affects your play a lot. I find for myself that I play more defensive at times when I don't feel relaxed - natural reaction. I also tend to blunder in bullet/blitz more when I'm worried about something and can't focus on the game.

Hmmm I guess it would depend on the person to. How many of us are confident that we could still beat any gm while he/she is in a bad head space? This isent a cut and dry question with a cut and dry answer

Yes to the OP! If I have something pressing in my personal life when I'm playing, it is a distraction.

Well, I doubt any GM can feel as bad as to lose a player, say, rated 1000 below him/her... The difference isn't THAT large. That said, a GM that is in a state that makes him play much worse will definitely perform badly against other GMs who are in a better state.

True. Point taken. Agreed

Arrogance can be very bad in chess. Playing regularly against weak players can made you think that you will always win, doesn't matter which moves you do, until you blunder material.

Yes...sure you are right...

Obviously bro. If a person is stressed, he won't have the patience and that's the end of the road for playing good chess.
