As players I want some insight into the way we approach the challenge of this game Chess.

AtahanT

This goes for everything that challenges the mind, ie also studies or exams.

1. Sleep atleast 10 hours.

2. Eat 2-3 hours before.

3. Always think like this: I will do my best because there is nothing I can do right now that can improve my result. That is why I do not need to worry that I won't do my best. I will and therefor I will be calm.

1. Have a plan : There is a saying ,''A bad plan is better than no plan at all'', I agree with this saying ,as a plan that's harmful can show you what choices to not take and can show what losses can happen if the plan is acted out. A bad plan could be made better, even brilliant if proper factors are present.

Back to #1 "A man with a plan is one to be reckon with".

I need to calmly and slowly review the board before making my move. I see 95% of my blunders as soon as I hit the submit button.

2. Keep perspective, Chess is a game , yet it presents in life an opportunity for the timid to be bold, for the cautious to risk and for the follower to lead. Again chess is a game so if you invest one moment of your life from the game receive joy from it no matter the outcome. Your opponent may have 8 Queens, it's not the end of the world and if you have a move it's not the end of the game, you can even resign to play again.

I'd like Atahan T to come back with more approaches on his game conduct, at least 7 more.

Personally theres two ways of looking at it.

Before I get to the board I make sure I'm well-rested and keep myself hydrated. Make sure you've eaten something and you've always got something to drink close-to-hand.

OTB theres one peice of advice thats served me better than any others. "Always check checks." Chess coach Dan Heisman calls it a "Sanity check". Basically when working variations out pay special attention to checks. There the only things that DEFINATELY force a particular reply.

Apart from that when you feel your attenion wandering, no matter what you're doing, close your eyes take a few deep breaths (get up and walk about if need be) and you should be fine.

Most importantly you need to try different things and find out what works for you.
