Magnus of course
Gukesh or Hikaru or Magnus?

Both Magnus and Hikaru are better than Gukesh. Some are calling Gukesh "world champion" because he beat #22 in the world in a match but Ding never even won a candidates tournament. At least Gukesh won that first. I'd rank Gukesh about #5 in the world. Oh look, he's currently #5 on the rating list. Go figure.

Also, if u average all 3 ratings, classical, rapid, and blitz, and then rank everybody based on that average then I don't think Gukesh is near the top 10. Likely he's in the top 20, possibly #15, but not in top 10.

Which of them do you think is the best?
The best what?
These clickbait topics get lazier and lazier.

Gukesh is number 5 mostly because a year ago he was just a 17 year old kid who was number 25. Then he had the most amazing year, the best year any player had since who knows when: he won the Candidates, he led Team India to gold medal with an incredible performance, and he became the youngest world champion in history.
If we compare 2024 results only, Gukesh is the best by a huge margin.

magipi, it would be interesting to see performance ratings for all of 2024. Is there a site that tracks that? Not the live rating that 2700chess.com does but performance calculations for all games in each calendar year.
That's an idea for a website if one doesn't exist already. Starting on 1 January of each year, just track only the overall performance ratings for just that year & only for all the players over 2700 (maybe 2600+) just like 2700chess.com tracks the live ratings.

This one shows the Elo performance of the last dozen months:

Hikaruu or levy??
Levy is incredibly far away from any of the other guys. Magnus, Hikaru and Gukesh are all top players, and Levy is not in the top 1000.

Gukesh's participation in the 2024 Candidates Tournament and the World Championship Match have generated significant controversy. (...)
In my opinion, anyone posting such AI-generated nonsense should be banned from the forums, especially if the nonsense happens to be abusive (as here).

Gukesh is 16 years younger than Magnus and from a different generation. He is only 18 and can beat Magnus in a world championship match. We cannot go by the past all the time, Magnus's brain probably can't keep up with the intensity for more than 7-8 years at the top. Mental toughness decides 95% of results not just in chess but in other sports as well. So I am not really buying this nonsensical thought that if he was active in classical he would have won the wcc in 2023 and 2024 as well. Not really, his mind couldn't cope with the intensity of preparation and it's a big part of this game.
