In Chess.com if you look at the leaderboard it shows that HIKARU is top 1 and Calsen at 2 while boards Magnus is consider “top century player” and chess.com is more fun SO HIKARU

Magnus is often considered more dominant than Hikaru in chess, and has defeated him in many classical chess games. However, Hikaru can still be better than Magnus in speed blitz games. Hikaru has never been world champion though.

I think Hikaru can be better than himself and Magnus can be better than himself.
So the answer is : Yes and No because we can be better than what we have never thought.
