who do you think would win if Kasparov had a showdown with Anand???

saponaro

Kaspariv has played Anand before, and he would probably beat Anand in a match. He beats up on everyone...

ELBEASTO

probably true..

"If Kasparov came back to play Anand...", so I take it that we're not assuming any variations on history up to the present moment, but speculating only on what could happen if Kasparov and Anand were to play a normal game or match in the near future?  If that's the case, I disagree: I would expect Anand to win.

Part of Kasparov's genius was that he went out at the top...therefore solidifying his mystical status forever in chess.

To bad Michael Jordan didn't take the same road.  Many great athletes can not let go.

ELBEASTO

Few people have done that, leaving players like jordan, ruth, and ali, to name a few.

I don't know, I think, if kasparov had a year to prepare he could do it easily.

I didn't play chess when he retired, so don't know if my facts are correct. However, I think that when he retired he was at the very top of his game and had nothing left to prove. I don't think that he'd come back to play Anand because it does not add anything to his already legendary status, but does jeopardise it.

However, would he be tempted out of retirement to beat up the newer generation? I don't know.

I think he'd still get the better of Anand in a match, although that's based on very little knowledge ;) For all I know Anand has perhaps matured into a completely different player that originally played Kasparov.

Kasparov.

You see, Kasparov participates in Russian politics.  In fact, his chief political opponent is Vladimir Putin.  That pretty much means he has to pack heat and know how to use it seeing as Putin goes hard like that.  In 2007, he was arrested with his band of political protesters and held in Russian prison.  This is something most people just disappear from, Kasparov walked out a few days later seemingly unscathed.  My personal theory is that his skin is nearly impervious to earthly matter.

Anand, on the other hand, has simpler ambitions, including writing.  While some may believe the pen is mightier than the sword (this is only true when Chuck Norris holds the pen), the gun is definitely mightier than the pen.  To date, Anand has exhibited no supernatural powers such as Kasparov's impervious skin.

Therefore, in a showdown Kasparov would likely win.  Unless Anand had a hellfire pistol to breach Kasparov's skin, it should be said.

Why would the two have a showdown anyway?  Wouldn't it be more interesting if they played chess?

kasparov in his prime

Where did all the Kramnik fans go ?  Innocent

Figure if Wayne Gretzky came back he'd be able to take crosby?... Not a chance, the fitness levels are totally different...

I'd assume Anand (even though I like Kasparov more :P) would beat up on gary.

Good point.  To this day he risks his life for his country.  Putin is known thug and assassin.  His time is probably past now, but given some preparation time he could probably still crush most anyone.

I think that more people are starting to feel that he isn't going to make it.  Once Topalav kicks his ass, his time will have probably passed.

I'd bet on Anand.

If Kasparov agreed to the match he'd be expecting himself to win it. I wouldn't bet against him.

If the match never happens  perhaps Kasparovs an old git and Anand is the better player these days.

If we're talking about a battle between them, both in their prime, it's Kasparov all the way.

Grakovsky

Despite the fact that I am a huge Garry Kasparov fan, I truly think that Anand would win based on his recent history.

anand because anand is young compared to kasparov so while anand is reaching his peak, kasparov is experiencing a decline in ability.

I brought Emmanuel Lasker back to life briefly, and asked him who would win.  Lasker said "Probably Anand."

Phelon

Surprising Kasparov is still fairly young as he retired early to try to save his country from Putin. If he were to train hard for the next year and forgo politics I think he would win. He would definitely win if it was his prime vs anand's.
