Hello, on chess.com and also on other sites there is a
B31 Sicilian Defense: Nyezhmetdinov-Rossolimo Attack, Fianchetto Variation.
Does anyone know who Nyezhmetdinov was? My research did not reveal anything except other names for the B31 with Nyezhmetdinov and Nimzovich instead of Nyezhmetdinov. If anyone knows, I would be happy to hear from you. Greetings Helmut

So I did a little research, and the more standard way of spelling the name outside of the opening is "Nezhmetdinov"; the player's name was Rashid Nezhmetdinov.

There is also a 2018 forum thread where a lot of people chimed in about Nezhmetdinov - including some game analysis and a large list of links to other mentions on the Chess.com site: https://www.chess.com/forum/view/general/why-is-nezhetdinov-not-so-famous

I looked in Chessbase to compare the Nyezhmetdinov-Rossolimo between the two respective players (using 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 2.Nc6 3.Bb5), and both players implemented this opening about a dozen times with great success.  This probably contributed to both players historically being given namesake of the opening.

Thanks, that was really helpful to me. I had found Rashid Nezhmetdinov too, but I doubted it was Nyezhmetdinov. Mainly because I read on Wikipedia that Rashid Nezhmetdinov was a Soviet chess and checkers player.
It is very kind that you have helped me further. By the way, I like to play the B31 Sicilian, Nyezhmetdinov-Rossolimo Attack, Fianchetto Variation.
Have a nice day and best regards, Helmut.

Nezhmetdinov was one of the greatest attacking players of all time.
