The Dreaded 'TWO MINUTE WAIT'

Here's the biggest beef i have on this site. It's allowing players to log off (or be disconnected) for two minutes while waiting and wondering why?

Often the case happens that some ppl out there simply won't resign lost positions and make it a point to waste ur time and patience while they gleefully log off and laugh at u. Most of these jokers are non-members, so i have a really good solution to this epidemic issue :

Make the log off or disconnect time only 30 seconds for non-members--or everyone, since in this age of fast comps, two minutes is a very long time to reconnect (assuming it's a legit disconnection)

Then there are the ones that just leave the computer with a totally lost game (which can even be worse, since it could go on for as long as there is time remaining on their clock). For those players i would suggest the following :

Report the abuse and the amount of time involved. Simple.

Immediately place them on ur NOPLAY list and be done with them.

I think 2 minutes is a fair amount of time. You have to worry about the good people with bad internet connections who would not be able to log back on in time. Just take the win and move on.

go to your favorite news website and read a short article, then check back. Thats what I do..

what i think u guys are missing here is that this is not an infrequent occurance. if it were, i'd have no gripe. i am not one to complain unless i feel a legitimate reason to do so, and my experience so far on this site has led me to this conclusion.

No, he's got a gripe and it's HIS recreation, so it's his opinion. He pays his dues and he's the only one to make that decision. Any no call for anyone else to tell him to calm down is simply out of place. No one is telling YOU how to react to what annoys you. If it annoys him enough, he'll simply go to another site.

Other sites allow games to be started with a 'disconnector forfeits' option on the rules. That might help him here.

Because the connection between the clients and the server is quite unstable for most players. Not to mention stuck pieces, not being able to move, etc. A lot of bugs lately.

It's a part of chess.

Flawed argument. There are way more non-premium members than premium members. It's like saying royalties commit less murders than civilians.

Does not take into account for router failures and many more reasons. Not everyone is developed, or lives in a developed country, so implying everyone should have a fast computer is false.

Why would you care? If you are so sure it is a ragequit, then start a new game. You should be able to do so since you are a premium member.

i have to admit i am quite surprised that so many of u support a two-minute timeout. i'd be more in favor of simply losing the game from my end if i disconnected and would gladly accept the circumstances. i am talking mainly about 5 min blitz games. Bullet doesn't apply, and 3 minute games may be affected, but generally the clock is considerably under 2 minutes at that point to be concerned about long timeouts. In longer time controls i can see the point of waiting, but then it does come down to the character of the person u are playing, which this site states they monitor--which is a good thing!

So i guess i am really talking about the 5-10 minute games here. At these time controls, players may still want to get in 1-2 hours of games with a good steady flow.

One problem with going to another site or reading something while u wait is that the person u are waiting for may reconnect faster than u anticipate and move, causing u to lose time on ur clock because u got distracted. I don't think this is such a serious issue, but all i was saying from the beginning is that it's annoying. I'm generally a patient person and don't have any road-rage issues, so i do wait for ppl to reconnect. What i was referring to mainly is the situation i mentioned in the original comment--players who leave in 'obviously lost positions'. This remark hasn't been addressed for some reason, and ppl responding to my commentary should take this into consideration...thanks.
