I recently watched an older chess movie from the 1970's. It was great, but I forget the name of it. I think it was "Dangerous Moves." Great movie.

i know theres an episode of the tv show columbo that was about an american chess champion who murders his russian rival before their big match. its from 72 or 73 the height of fishermania,it doesnt compare to searching for bobby fisher but thats the only other one i can think of and that was a tv movie

couldn't be because Morphy was the greatestCool

Fischer at his absolute best vs. Kasparov at his absolute best would be a great match to see. Fischer would win though because the difference between the two is Kasparov is a great player, but Fischer at his best is a genius, and even Garry can't beat perfection in a match.

No offence to fischer but Kasparov is better then him by more then people realise. I think Karpov could have taken the title honestly if bobby wasnt such an asshole with his attitude, then u would know he isnt as good as he thinks he is man that guy was full of it but he was a brilliant player no one can deny that. wish we had got to see bobby and karpov that would have been cool...Cool

Oh yes i believe that each of the many great champions added something great to improve chess for us all not just by there games but by the way they thought that made players change idea's too....Cool

I appreciate the vote of confidence, but respectfully, I'm not very good at chess. I lose plenty of games, heck you can see some of them by checking my games archive!

SIXGUNS

Best is hard to consider because of the different era and the different opponents that they faced.

Even so Fischer faced to toughest opposition . He faced  TAL, Spassky, Keres, Taminov,Petrosian, Botnivinik, Larsen, Bronstein, Kotov, Geller, Gligoric, Reveshky , etc.. Whats so impressive is his score against these greats !!!!! I agree Kasparov is indeed great but both at prime playing Fischer would win without a doubt.

My list .

1. Fischer

2. Kasparov

3. Lasker

4. Tal.

5. Capablanca

6.Alekhine

7.Kramnik

8.Keres and Karpov (tied)

9. Botvinik and Spassky

10. Bronstien and Paul Morphy (tied)

11. Pillsbury  and Petrosian (tied)

 Thank you.

Look at my list. Not only did I list the great Emanuel Lasker but I placed him third , ahead of such  chess titans as  Tal, Capablanca and Alekhine!!!

Greatest to have never won the world title are Akiba Rubenstien, Paul Keres , Victor Korchnoi and David Bronstien.-SIX

In chess Kasparov was the greatest. The reason i believe this is  1.) Kasparov defended his title for 15yrs, Fischer never did defend it and i believe Karpov to have been alot better then Spassky no offencce to him. 2.)Kasparov was the highest rated human player we have ever had at 2851 i believe he reached, where fischer was estimated at 2785 at this highest from what i once read.  3.)Kasparov is also the youngest world champion i believe we have ever had at 22yrs old. 4.) Kasparov had to deal with the increase of technolegy, Fishcer didnt which means he never had to deal with younger players with so much more info at there disposal. 5.)Kasparovs preporation was brilliant and i believe no one untill him had studied openings in such depth to deal with each player right through to the end.  These are the reason i believe he is the greatest player, even though fischer was without a doubt brilliant i dont think he is quite as good because we never got to see him go on in his caree Kasparov we did.....Cool

Kasparov and other champs since after Fischer's riegn have had much help in thier chess. They all since after Fischer had chess teams aiding them in thier matches. Fischer had one person I think Larry Evans and even Evans admits he did very little . Karpov ,Kasparov, Kramnik etc all had large support teams analyzing , etc for them. When Fischer beat Spassky , Spassky had just about the entire group of top Russian grandmasters to recieve aid from. Everybody now knows that the Russians cheated back then! Fischer beat them even though they cheated. Fischer had the toughest opposition. Fischer's demolition of top Russian grandmasters, Taiminov, exworld champ Petrosian and  the fantastic Dane Larsen was nothing short of a miracle!!!

Best ever Fischer!! I would bet my life on it . Once bet my lefthand little finger against a fine chess set my friend Louis had that Bobby would defeat Spassky.. Fischer beat Spassky. I got that chess set and kept my little finger to boot. I had no doubt ,had studied so many of Fischer's games up to that time. Young and full of outrageous bravado back then. Would I have chopped off the finger if Fischer had lost to Spassky ? Believe it or not the answer is yes. I have never not paid up on a bet. Even worse is my good friend Louis later told me that he had planned on keeping that finger in a jar on his study desk at home.lol .. Thank God Fischer was the greatest chess player to have ever pushed a pawn!- SIX
