The question was good. I'm just above-average for chess trivia.
The tallest GM I can think of was 6 foot 9 inches tall. Can anyone name him or think of a taller one?

Not Smyslov, though he was the basketball player among the old guard of Soviet GMs.
Not Kramnik. He must be the tallest current GM, right? Tallest world champ?

The recently deceased Miroslav Filip was 6ft 9 according to his obituary.

Fischer or Smyslov were the tallest World Champs.

Yes! Filip was my tall GM at 6-9.
A very strong player too as a 2-time Candidate.
Anyone have a taller one in mind? Cite a source for height if you do.

Kramnik is listed at 6' 6". He's the tallest current and active GM so far as I know.

Going by memory, Fischer was 6' 2".
Pretty tall for the 1950s and 60s but still in the normal range.

Wow, I had no idea Kramnik was that tall! I though he was a fairly squat guy...
He had even records against 3 world champions, Euwe, Capablanca and Fischer. (One of only 4 players to have defeated both Capa and Fischer)
