Who Is The Best American Chess Player?

As for the best of all time, I give it to Fischer and for the best of right now, I give it to Caruana.
Fischer is #1 for me because he was more invested into the game than anyone else I know of and he also had a brilliant mind to compliment his dedication. He came as an individual against the collective Soviet Union and outplayed all of their champions and masters as well as topping Larsen for the best non-Soviet player of the time.
As for Caruana, I had to say someone and I suppose I'll give it to him although American chess has been on a bit of a decline recently at the top. Caruana is clearly not as good as he used to be 4 years ago but he seems to be trying to relax more and reinvest himself which I think could be a good option for him and he has been doing pretty well recently in tournaments. As for Nakamura, he's let go of his younger more aggressive and lightning quick style to become much more solid and calculating but he still hasn't to me seemed as theoretically sharp as Caruana or as dominant over the board. As for So, I probably would say despite losing the US Championship, he was the best of 2022 but he has fallen off some recently and had a bit of a rough patch although I expect that it's only a matter of time before he comes back stronger than ever. As for Perez, he's still great but clearly past his best and he often is outplayed by younger minds. As for Aronian, he seemed to fall off a bit after switching federations but he's getting back up there in real time at TATA Steel. As for Shankland, he's very solid but will never in my opinion be the top U.S. player because he simply doesn't have the brilliant mind for it (he himself has said he's not a genius but an extremely hard worker.)
There are of course up and coming talents such as Niemann, Robson, Xiong, Sevian, Oparin, Swiercz, Liang and even prodigies such as Tani and Mishra but the new U.S. chess generation seems to be seriously lacking in the fire of the Uzbek and Indian teams so even as the best U.S player, I doubt there ability to achieve what this generation and Fischer did.
