As one Tennessean (originally) to another, I share your opinion about the silliness of many of the immature "first" "I did this in half a second" etc. posts. But fortunately, they are just that short, so they take up very little of your time. I have found, so far, that the great features of this site far outweigh the fact that some of the posters have nothing to say but say it anyway.
Why I'm getting ready to leave this site for good

Don't quite know what anyone has to complain about- if posts annoy you don't read them. If you're here to play chess, just play. Furthermore, this site is much better than any other chess playing sites that I've checked out. Moderation (unless comments are directly offensive or abusive) sounds too much like censorship. Chess.com is a democracy not an autocracy. Mellow out.

In the sense that members are able to make requests for new site features and are listened to (within reason) by the maintenance team, it is. Also, what could be more democratic than Vote Chess? I'll admit though that perhaps the emphasis upon ratings could be somewhat elitist. :)
I don't get this problem with 'me first' on the daily puzzle.
who cares apart from a whoever is posting these comments, who was first?
do'es it matter to me who was first? it's just a bit of a laugh, I guess. sure it may seem a trifle immature, a bit of childish delight in being first. so what, who gives a smeg?
these comments do not bother me at all
not everyone has to be a serious responsible mature adult with his (or her) pipe and slippers to hand
there is a child in everyone

Unless your a paying customer ....good riddance. How can anyone complain about a free anything ??? Get over it ...grow a set.
I agree get over it! You have to take the good with the bad mate! If u cant handle that u should leave and find something else, good luck in doing that though. Chess.com is by far the best around in my opinion...

This website is out of control. How are you supposed to get paying members when you don't moderate the traffic on the site? It's almost to the point now where it's unbearable. There is no reason for 100 people to sit around waiting for midnight so they can post "first" and "easy" and "i'm so incredible that I did this is .5 seconds" etc on the daily puzzles.
Chess.com, please get yourself under control. You are not the only place on the internet for chess conversation or puzzles or online play. You are, however, quickly becoming my least favorite.
Your domain is worth over a quarter of a million dollars. Start moderating the forums.
I'm fine with the Daily Puzzle threads, they're just a place for SPAM.
However, the moderation of the forums in general is too low. There are trolls (actually, the only one I can think of is cheater_1) and spammers (there are a TON of spamming, useless threads). Threads that are re-made should be locked or merged with the original--not left with three or more of the same thread. There should be much more warnings for spam and useless posts.

i was a regular at worth1000.com, which had one of the greatest moderation techniques i've ever seen in the forums:
'suicide note' posts, such as the OP in this thread were instantly banned. want to whine about leaving? ban. want to threaten us with leaving? ban. announce your intention to leave? ban.
stopped that carp right in its tracks.

Alright I have two major problems with this thread....
Oh but first....
FIRST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is sooooooooooooooo Easy!
If anyone was thinking logically they would realize that moderation is censorship. Censorship is a direct violation of freedom of speech. I realize that there are rules about language and political content here. I respect those rules. First and Easy do not violate these rules and are probably written by children in many cases.
So my problems....
1) You can't censor kids and half-wits who want to exclaim "First!" and "Easy!" because it violates everything that America stands for and the whole free world for that matter. Nowhere in any constitution does it say that everyone shall have the freedom from annoying people! This is because you don't have the right to stop people from annoying you. I applaud Erik for having policies that allow you to post rediculous threads like this one. This thread annoys me; I don't want him to censor you but if I were him I'd be tempted to. Shows some serious strength of character does it not?
2) I'm sick of people saying that non-paying members have no right to complain. I believe everybody can say whatever they want. Maybe their complaints are valid. This site is free because it needs to be. People who pay don't have more rights they just get to use more features. This is a great division. Saying that non-paying members should not be allowed to complain is saying that you don't want non-paying members here. The non-paying members bring in ad revenue and make the site worth doing (this is more an assumption than anything.) Paying members are great because they love this site and try to help it, but it takes all kinds to make the world go 'round. Get over yourself elitists! Some people can't afford a membership but might have great ideas or concerns.
In summation let people say what they want and agree or disagree. Don't be rude and try to censor them there is no benefit (Within the specified rules). The fact that he posted this created a backlash which shows huge support for this site.

there is no violation of the first amendment, or the principles on which America stands, when a private owner of a website says "you will not say this in my house.", period.
it shouldn't have to be said.
your sense of entitlement is dizzying.

it shouldn't have to be said.
your sense of entitlement is dizzying.
You should read my post before calling me entitled!
I clearly said I applaud Erik (The owner of the site) for adopting policies that reflect our core values as Americans. There is nothing entitled about that....
But I'm sure it wasn't your intention to insult me....
Anthony

And clearly I said I understand that there are rules and that I respect them, but I think most of you would prefer fascism on their chess website!

Well, I guess if you're here just for the forums, sure maybe you might look elsewhere. If you're looking for a good place to play chess and learn, you're probably in the right spot. Want both? Sign up here to play chess and then head over to Facebook to chat.
I just don't understand people who want to have all their needs met by one website. Are you expecting Chess.com to take care of all your culinary inquiries as well, oh, and maybe it should give you all the political news of the day, oh and how about...
Good luck finding that one site you never have to leave to fulfill yourself.
"Out of Control" and "unbearable"? That seems a bit much. The site is for playing chess. The forums are but one of many things to do when it's not your move and you're tired of analyzing your current games.
