A New Chess Variant: MagNak, or Clown Jack

There's a new kid in town, another chess variant we may call MagNak.

Zany and clownish.

.

Here's my comment, through the brush strokes of Laurent Chimento of France,

Jack the clown plays chess

I know that for them chess is primary source of income and they want to win as much money with as little effort as possible.

But, for many players, including myself, chess is more than just a sport or a game, it is an art and part of the culture. So, seeing disrespectful games like this make me somewhat disappointed and doubtful for the future of chess.

Chess is becoming increasingly viewed as a sport, which as a consequence has a lot of young (and non-negligible amount of mature) players behaving very primitive.

Are we going to see more and more players kicking under the table, clearing throats extremely loudly, banging on the clocks unnecessarily, refusing to shake hands after the defeat, cursing opponents, picking noses before playing the move or are we going to go back a bit in time and view opponents with respect, analyze games after it is over and have a friendly chat with drink afterwards? Considering who are the idols giving examples, who gives and takes most money from chess and overall direction our culture is going I would unfortunately say the former.

It looks inappropriate to accuse them for playing only for money. Chess is their job and we are not the ones who can judge them. But another thing looks stupid here. And very irresponsible...As I see, both players are accepted to play for the money that was offered to them. And after that, they avoid to work for that money. If they refused to accept playing tournament with humiliating reword I would say: Bravo! That's your job and your price is higher. Don't play for nothing. But accept conditions and play with no play is unallowable for any serious player. This is a kind of immature teenagers' behavior.

Hey Rocko, great to hear from you. Trust all’s well.

It all stay what you said and i also find disrespectful other short draws, as we can see on same tournament we have well knowed Berlin draw sentence that lasts 14. moves

round 4 Nakamura - Karjakin

round 8 So - Nakamura

round 11 Nakamura - Guru

round 13 MVL - Nakamura; Nepo - Karjakin

round 14 Nakamura - Alireza

round 15 Alireza - Van Forrest; Mamedyarov - So.

5 games played Nakamura + this one with Carlsen. Really sad

The Berlin, the London, they all suck. We should play Fischer chess and limit the minimum number of moves...

Fischer chess sucks, too. Capablanca chess is the one!

8x10 board, two extra pieces. The whole endgame theory changes! In Fischer chess only the openings are different.

Capa chess is a completely different game.

Fischer is the same game. Minus opening preparation and sickly engines' intrusion.

And what's wrong with classical chess endgames?wink.png
