I wasn't expecting you to give up your dark bishop.

Yeah, 15. cxd3

Marks1420

I think I have good compensation. The rest of  your pieces are a bit passive atm. I have a conditional there happy.png

I'm not sure this saves the f4 pawn, it will take me longer to win it but I can't see how you can hope to hold on to that pawn. You double my pawns, but you make my dark bishop stronger.

I realise you've played f5 here, I'm gonna mull this over because I can capture en passant. But f5 is actually a good square for your witch, and you now can't do that so maybe I should leave the pawns. Important decision.

Marks1420

You have a critical weakness which will make it hard to win f4 in my opinion. Your dark square bishop will have a hard time finding an active square unless you capture f5, even with help from your witch.

We'll see what happens.

His move was Re8 if captaintugwash was wondering

How do you even play this?

captaintugwash

That's Rf8 holo. He's protecting f5.

It's chess, except with extra pieces... the guard and witch. The guard (h2 and b8) is an easy piece to explain... it's the same as a king, only it is not subject to check, and therefore can be captured.

The witch (d2 and e6) is explained here... https://www.chess.com/clubs/forum/view/witch-explained

Those board coordinates refer to the position with the white pieces at the bottom (white rook on a1).

Looks like Re8 based on your opponent's board.

Holo is right, Tug.

Nice...

Thanks for explaining that @captaintugwash

Good to know.

captaintugwash

I'm confused. The e1 square with black at the bottom is the f8 square when the board is flipped. You physically moved the rook to e1. This is why I don't want to use a board where the coordinates are not accurate.

^ This is the position before you moved (I have played Bc2). Re8 makes the rook not adjacent to the queen, yet you posted this board...

Here the rook is adjacent to the queen.

No problem.

I mean, are you protecting the pawn? If so, that's Rf8.

Are you pinning my knight? That's Re8.

PerpetuallyPinned

Yeah, the issue is the board coordinates not changing with the board orientation. The board should always be from White's perspective, unless coordinates can be changed.

In a rated game, the post would take precedence and Re8 (imo) would have to be played.

Cap'n,  being gentleman, just trying to be sure of Mark's true intentions... which I thought were Rf8...now, not so sure.

captaintugwash

Yes, the posted move is binding, not the move played on the board. But this isn't a rated game, I'm keen for Mark to play his intended move, which I assume to be Rf8 but it could be Re8.
